Founded in 2019 and based in Serra da Freita, Arouca, Escola de Montanha is a non-profit association built around the belief that the mountain is best experienced with knowledge, care and good company.
Its focus is on training practitioners and instructors in climbing, mountaineering, canyoning and alpinism, with a team of over 20 technicians delivering courses, expeditions, camps and events to a growing community of more than 250 members. Since 2023, this photographic work has grown alongside the association as a direct collaboration, documenting its activities from the inside, as a photographer and member.
The images capture not just the technical disciplines but the spirit that runs through all of them: the shared effort, the trust between people, and the particular silence that comes with being high up and focused. A body of work that is as much about belonging to a community as it is about documenting one.
